Two great premium SUV vehicles on the Vancouver market are the 2022 BMW X1 and Audi Q3. So what makes these vehicles differ from one another, and is one the better option to buy?

 

BMW vs. Audi

 

While these two cars have similar dimensions, there are quite a few key differences that’ll impact your decision on which vehicle to buy.

 

Price and Models

 

The starting price of a 2022 BMW X1 FWD is around $42,425, with the price starting at a higher rate for the AWD model. The price for the Audi Q3 starts at $38,650, with four models available. Both are similar in dimension, being around 445.7cm in length, 159.8cm in height, and 156.5cm in width.

 

Design

 

The X1 offers both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive, while the Audi Q3 doesn’t offer a two-wheel-drive configuration. Both vehicles are five-seaters with fold-down back seats. The BMW models provide more cargo space than the Q3, with 0.096 cubic meters more when the back seat is up and 0.302 cubic meters more when the rear seat is folded down. 

 

This also holds true for the passenger seating, with the X1 being significantly more spacious in the legroom, headroom, and shoulder room.

 

Features

 

One of the features X1 has that the Q3 doesn’t is the passenger rearview mirror automatically shifts when reversing to offer the best view and optional heating in the steering wheel. This allows for greater comfort when driving.

 

The X1 offers a heads-up display (HUD) that can be optionally installed and shows the speed, warnings, and navigation instructions. There’s no option to have this installed in Q3. BMW also has its buttons for cruise control and the like backlit to ensure it’s easily viewed at night, while Audi doesn’t offer this feature either.

 

Specs

 

Both vehicles have a 2.0-litre Turbo inline Gas engine, but the 2022 BMW X1 has a 60.95 litres fuel tank, while the Audi Q3 has a 60.18 litres fuel tank. The X1 offers 228 horsepower at 5,000 RPM and 349.8 newton-metres of torque at 1,450 RPM. The Audi offers slightly less at 184 horsepower at 4,800 RPM and 299.6 newton-meters of torque at 3,500 RPM.

 

In terms of weight, the X1 weighs more or less 90kg to 181kg less than the Audi Q3, making it accelerate faster and handle easier. It also has a better aerodynamic coefficient drag of 0.32 Cd, compared to Audi’s 0.36 Cd.

 

Extras

 

When looking at customer reviews and ratings, the BMW X1 received an overall good rating, with reportedly easier servicing and lower insurance costs. In addition, it has been chosen on some sites as one of the top five cars for the last three years running.

 

Meanwhile, the Audi Q3 has an overall fair rating and a 4% lower rating when it comes to servicing. 

 

BMW or Audi

While both brands offer great vehicles, it’s essential to keep in mind what you need from the vehicle. Overall, the 2022 BMW X1 provides a more effortless more comfortable experience. It has more power, better aerodynamics, fuel consumption, and more interior space. If you’re looking for a premium SUV in Vancouver, then the 2022 BMW X1 might just be the car for you.
