Athletic design, powerful driving dynamics, and an open-air cabin make the new 2020 BMW Z4 one of the most thrilling rides on the road today. This year's Z4 comes with two available upgrade packages - the Z4 M Sport, and Z4 M0i. Base Z4 models start at $62,450, while the M packages typically add about $2750.
The Ultimate Driving Machine
Performance comes standard on the new Z4 Roadster. Aerodynamic air vents and a seamlessly integrated rear spoiler reduce drag and add sport styling, as well. BMW offers this year's Z4 with a choice of two engines. sDrive30i models come with a 255-HP 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 295 lb-ft of torque.
The Z4 M Sport and Z4 M0i packages swap out the four-cylinder for a larger 3.0L turbo six that cranks out 382-HP and 369 lb-ft of torque. Base sDrive 2.0i trims come from the factory with a 6-speed manual gearbox. All other models get an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. A new, slightly shorter wheelbase and wider stance combine to deliver near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution and improved cornering compared to prior years.
Comfort and Convenience Come Standard
The well-appointed two-seater comes with lots of standard luxury features like SensaTec upholstery, automatic climate control with automatic air recirculation, and push-button start. Fourteen-way power front seats include a memory function for both driver and front passenger sides. The BMW Advanced Vehicle and Key Memory system also saves the last used climate-control temperature and air-distribution settings, exterior mirror positions, and lighting preferences.
Entertainment Features
The standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional infotainment system features a high-resolution digital instrument cluster as well as a central information display. Along with the infotainment system, the main 260-mm centre screen handles a variety of other functions like climate control, navigation, and cell-phone calls.
All Z4 infotainment systems include AM/FM/HD and satellite ready premium sound. The Executive Package adds an upgraded 12-speaker, 408-watt Harman Kardon system.
Loaded With BMW Technology
Notable technology features found on this year's Z4 include BMWs "SmartLock" technology. Through the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, owners can lock or unlock the Z4 with only their smartphone. The 2020 Z4 also features standard or available technologies like Wireless Charging, Remote Start, and WiFi Hotspot connectivity.
The Z4s soft-top can be closed at speeds of up to 50 kph in as fast as ten seconds from inside the cockpit or remotely by using the vehicle's key.
Exceptionally Safe
Along with a wealth of traditional safety features, the available Driving Assistance Package adds BMW's Active Driving Assistant. The Active Driving Assistant suite of driver-assist technologies includes Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, Frontal Collision Warning, and much, much more.
